EdUHK celebrated the 10th anniversary of its retitling in May at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Serving as the title sponsor for the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO) concert, The Hero’s Quest, the University marked the milestone by inviting more than 160 local primary and secondary school students, including non-Chinese speaking students, to experience the performance, reinforcing its dedication to arts education and community inclusion.

Conducted by maestro Chew Hee-chiat, Assistant Artistic Director and Resident Conductor of the HKCO, the concert presented a vibrant programme themed around a half-century of Hong Kong’s iconic martial arts film and television music. The orchestra performed classic tunes such as Iron, Blood and Loyal Heart, The Smiling Proud Wanderer, Chor Lau Heung, Forgetting the Love of My Heart, and The Understudy. Heartfelt vocal performances by Ms Mischa Ip Hau-lam and Mr Raymond Young Lap-moon, alongside a rousing display by Guan and Suona virtuoso Qin Ji-tao, captivated the audience. The evening culminated in the sweeping momentum of the grand finale, Fantasia on Louis Cha’s Martial Art Novels.
Prior to the concert, EdUHK hosted a reception bringing together distinguished guests, alumni, and partners to reflect on a decade of growth. Attendees included EdUHK Council Treasurer Ms Imma Ling Kit-sum, Vice President (Research and Development) Professor Chetwyn Chan Che-hin, and Dr Prudence Lau Leung-kwok, Acting Head of the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts.
Welcoming guests, Professor Chan remarked, “The 10th anniversary of the University’s retitling is an important milestone. Reflecting on the achievements of the past decade, EdUHK has pursued excellence in teaching and research while actively promoting the development of arts and culture. Through collaborations with professional arts organisations, the University has broadened students’ horizons and strengthened cultural connections between the campus and society.”
Dr Lau echoed these sentiments, highlighting the Department’s core vision of ‘educating through culture’ – integrating teaching with social engagement to nurture humanistic qualities and social responsibility within the community.
