Daphnee Choy Ming-yan
Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Creative Arts and Culture and Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Music)
Daphnee Choy’s musical journey is full of surprises. She began learning the flute at the age of five and was introduced to the zhongruan during secondary school years. Four years ago, she decided to enrol at EdUHK, and last year won three awards at the AIMA Fukuoka Music Competition 2024 in Fukuoka, Japan.
She has loved music since childhood and enjoys performing, and also has a passion for arts administration. Daphnee is grateful for having chosen the University because the programme covers various forms of artistic expression and creation, touching on arts administration, backstage production, music education and more. This has allowed her to experience both the front- and back-of-house operations, which she finds invaluable. At the same time, she participates in school activities, serving as the chairperson and student conductor of the university orchestra, collaborating seamlessly with students from different classes, and making many friends with similar interests.
Speaking of mentors, she explains that the teachers at the University are very approachable and willing to offer advice and support in both academic and career planning. “We even have the opportunity to perform alongside renowned musicians, such as Ms Nancy Loo and Ms Colleen Lee,” she says. The open and diverse school atmosphere has allowed her to immerse herself and continuously progress. EdUHK also provides various exchange opportunities to enrich students’ experiences, such as participating in Greater Bay Area music tours, attending overseas music festivals, collaborating and exchanging ideas with artists from around the world, and even receiving personal guidance from musical masters.

As she is about to enter the final year of her programme, she already has a clear direction, aiming to further her music studies in France, and is currently actively preparing for the admission selection. “Looking back over the past few years, I have gained so much at EdUHK, had many opportunities to perform, and learned to enjoy everything I have done on stage,” she says.
