New programmes prepare students for the opportunities of a digital world

In line with its Strategic Plan 2025-2031, EdUHK is introducing an array of forward-looking new programmes at both master’s and undergraduate levels. Designed to prepare graduates for a rapidly changing world, they cover areas such as artificial intelligence, new media, digital Chinese culture and communication, as well as personal finance.

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Digital Chinese Culture and Communication

With the advent of the digital era, this programme is designed to cultivate students’ knowledge of applied technology with an international perspective and humanistic care. It integrates Chinese language, media, creative arts and digital applications. While training students in language proficiency, the programme also requires them to learn various digital tools, as well as master the development, production and distribution of digital content, so they are equipped to become well-rounded specialists.

Students can gain in-depth knowledge of Chinese culture, artificial intelligence and digital technology, and have the opportunity to be interns at various firms in Hong Kong and other cities in the Greater Bay Area. This allows them to apply the knowledge and skills they have learned, participate in the development of creative digital content, and acquire the ability to create and publish engaging works on digital platforms.

Graduates can pursue careers in fields such as Chinese education, creative planning, advertising, media, publishing, tourism, arts management and international business.

It provides a host of clinical and community internship opportunities covering service recipients of different ages. Under the supervision of qualified speech-language pathologists, students have the opportunity to practise what they have learned in various institutions, conducting screening, assessment, diagnosis and rehabilitation for patients with language, hearing, literacy, communication and swallowing disorders.

Notably, the programme offers an integrated minor in psychology and well-being, enabling students to gain in-depth knowledge in areas such as rehabilitation for elderly people, holistic development, educational psychology and play therapy, to understand the psychological needs and development of individuals at different life stages, addressing the ever-changing healthcare and rehabilitation needs.

On completion of the programme, students can register as Accredited Speech Therapists under the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Health Bureau, to engage in speech therapy work in hospitals, clinics, non-governmental organisations, schools and other social service institutions, or serve as university research assistants related to speech and hearing.

In response, the University has launched the first bachelor’s degree programme in finance specifically targeting individuals and families, integrating professional knowledge with theoretical practice. It covers topics such as tax planning, credit management, retirement planning and estate planning, and keeps pace with the latest global financial industry developments, teaching fintech, ESG investment, risk management, and green and sustainable finance.

The programme emphasises personalised financial planning, professional ethics and decision-making, and the cultivation of financial communication skills, providing students with internship opportunities in financial institutions and field visits, aiding in the establishment and expansion of career and networks in business, non-governmental organisations and education.
