President’s Message

Professor John Lee Chi-Kin
President of EdUHK
Welcome to Issue 3 of EdUHK Futures magazine.
After months of collaborative effort among our colleagues and stakeholders, I am delighted and proud to announce the launch of The Education University of Hong Kong’s (EdUHK) Strategic Plan 2025-2031. This plan sets out our direction for the next six years under the theme of ‘Education Futures’, charting a clear path to ensure EdUHK continues to lead in educational development, talent cultivation and technological advancement, in Hong Kong SAR, the nation and beyond.
At EdUHK, we recognise the importance of responding to evolving local, national and global priorities while upholding our commitment to educational excellence. Building on our previous ‘Education-plus’ approach from the preceding strategic plan, we have expanded our influence beyond traditional education by introducing forward-looking programmes in areas such as artificial intelligence, emerging educational technologies, and heritage education. Our determination to remain at the forefront of educational advancement has been consistently demonstrated over the past decade.
As we enter into a new chapter, we remain guided by our core values. At the heart of our Strategic Plan 2025-2031 lies a forward-thinking vision that prioritises innovation, sustainability, and collaboration. It is structured around four key areas:
1) Nurturing Future-ready Educators and Talents with Positive Values and Skills for Tomorrow
2) Achieving a Tangible Impact and Benefitting the World through Breakthroughs in Research and Knowledge Sharing and Transfer
3) Contributing to Sustainable Development
4) University Advancement via Internationalisation and Wider Engagement with Stakeholders
By integrating multidisciplinary learning into our curriculum, we are preparing students for the challenges and opportunities of a digital world. At the same time, we are advancing our research capacity through strategic clustering and facility enhancements. As a key stakeholder of the sector, we are taking bold steps to incorporate sustainability targets into every aspect of university development, including administration and programme design. Furthermore, by extending our global outreach through accelerated academic and research collaborations, EdUHK strives to strengthen its role as a leading university in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
The recently released 2024-2035 Master Plan on Building China into a Leading Country in Education highlights the need to establish a mechanism for coordinating and promoting the integration of education, technology and talent by leveraging education’s support for science and technology. EdUHK will draw on the Master Plan and other international development trends to foster the synergistic development of nurturing talent, attracting talents and advancing science and technology, contributing to the high-quality development of Hong Kong and the country, as well as to the establishment of the country as a leader in education.
Progress is driven by the collective effort of a dedicated community. As we embark on this strategic journey, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our Council, faculty, staff, students, alumni and external partners for their unwavering support and contributions.
Let us move forward with purpose and determination to enhance EdUHK’s impact on the world.
