Last summer, EdUHK welcomed a vibrant wave of international energy to its campus through the inaugural Summer Short-term Programme, held from 19 July to 16 August 2025.
Jointly organised by the Office of the Vice President (Academic) and the Global Affairs Office, the four-week initiative was designed to foster cultural diversity and meaningful integration between local and non-local students.

The Programme brought together 105 students from 24 overseas partner institutions, representing a kaleidoscope of cultures and perspectives. From the Chinese Mainland and Macao to Korea, the Netherlands, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom, the cohort reflected EdUHK’s growing commitment to global learning and intercultural dialogue.
Participants enrolled in two credit-bearing courses tailored to both intellectual curiosity and cultural immersion. The first, offered by the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology, explored the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. The second, led by the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies, introduced students to the rich cultural fabric of Hong Kong through literature, history, and contemporary life.
Beyond the classroom, students embarked on a series of curated excursions and workshops organised by the Student Affairs Office. These included museum visits, heritage tours, and hands-on activities such as crafting traditional Chinese paper kites and designing minibus signs. These experiences offered a deeper appreciation of Hong Kong’s unique identity and encouraged friendships that crossed borders and disciplines.
Reflections from participants highlighted the Programme’s impact. Maram from Umm Al-Qura University said, “As a student from Saudi Arabia, I enjoyed the courses, cultural activities, and the warm friendships I built with fellow students. The supportive environment made learning both fun and inspiring.” Jiatong from Northeast Normal University added, “The month at EdUHK was incredibly rewarding. I gained a deeper understanding of Hong Kong’s rich culture and appreciated the meticulous preparations made by EdUHK and the warm assistance from student volunteers.” Elvira from Moscow City University remarked, “This Programme has given me much more than I ever imagined. I learned about AI and Hong Kong’s history, which inspired me to develop my skills and explore new cultures.”
The success of the pilot Programme has paved the way for its expansion. In response to enthusiastic feedback, EdUHK will rebrand the initiative as ‘EdUHK Summer School 2026’ and double its capacity to welcome 200 students next summer. This evolution signals the University’s continued dedication to internationalisation, cultural integration, and the creation of inclusive learning environments that prepare students to thrive in a globalised world.
