EdUHK held its first ‘Caring for Life Day’ in February, with the aim of promoting the physical, mental, and spiritual health of the University’s management, teaching staff, and frontline employees through a series of activities to enhance well-being. At the same time, they hoped to promote the core values of ‘people-oriented’ care culture, social harmony and inclusion in the community. The opening ceremony of the event received support from EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, members of the Board of Governors, Yuen Long District Council members, and representatives from community partners.
On the day of the event, various Chinese traditional cultural workshops were set up, including calligraphy displays and traditional tea performances, allowing participants to experience the charm of traditional Chinese arts.
Participants also had the opportunity to experience various sports, including yoga and the emerging sport of Dodgebee, allowing everyone to breathe fresh air, stretch their legs and relax during the event.
The day also emphasised community integration and interaction, inviting schools, social enterprises and non-profit organisations to hold a variety of exhibits and handicrafts at activity booths, raising public awareness of vulnerable groups in society.
Furthermore, a ‘Pet Carnival’ was set up in the Learning Commons building, where staff and students could bring their pets to participate in pet care workshops and pet yoga classes, enjoying the fun of campus life together.
The activities held on ‘Caring for Life Day’ helped strengthen community spirit and encouraged the EdUHK family to engage even more in community activities. The event received widespread praise and recognition from all parties, fully demonstrating the importance of social inclusion at the University.
